Portrait of Nishtha Kukreja

Hi, I'm Nishtha.

I build software where intelligence meets reliability. From AI systems to fault-tolerant infrastructure, I'm interested in turning complex technical problems into products that are fast, scalable, and useful.

Computer Science student at USF exploring AI/ML, distributed systems, and data-driven engineering.

About

I'm a Computer Science student at the University of South Florida building across AI, software systems, and data. I like taking ambiguous ideas and turning them into working products — from intelligent applications and internal tools to reliable backend systems and user-facing interfaces.

Most recently, I worked at Nucor building AI-enabled internal tools and data solutions. Outside of internships, I work on research, technical projects, and campus initiatives while continuously experimenting with new systems and technologies.

Focus areas: Applied AI/ML, software engineering, distributed & data systems

Currently exploring: Agentic AI, RAG, neuromorphic computing, and production-scale ML systems

Experience

Internships, research, campus work, and technical leadership.

Internship Summer 2026

Nucor

Software Engineering Intern — AI & Data

Built AI-powered internal tools using Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, RAG, and multi-agent orchestration for enterprise workflows. Contributed to data and analytics modernization through Databricks, ETL pipelines, backend orchestration, and predictive-maintenance use cases.

Research 2026 — Present

Hexa Labs — University of South Florida

Undergraduate Researcher — AI Systems

Researching neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, and efficient AI systems. Working with recent research, simulations, and frameworks such as snnTorch while exploring applications for next-generation computing and data-center workloads.

Campus Work 2025 — Present

USF Student Health & Wellness Center

Marketing Lead / Digital Experience

Lead digital content and student-facing campaigns for campus health initiatives across web content, social strategy, event promotion, and digital experiences that make health resources more accessible and engaging.

Campus Work 2024 — 2025

USF IT Service Desk

IT Support & Systems

Supported students and staff across Microsoft 365, Canvas, account access, and university technology systems. Resolved high-volume technical issues while working with enterprise tools, documentation, and support workflows.

Leadership 2025 — Present

Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers — USF

Vice President External

Lead external partnerships, outreach, sponsorship initiatives, mentorship programs, and industry-facing opportunities — building relationships between students, companies, and the broader engineering community.

Leadership

Google Developer Student Clubs — USF

Marketing Lead

Support technical programming and developer-focused events while shaping outreach, branding, and student engagement. Previously led hands-on workshops including Python-based projects and beginner-friendly technical sessions.

Leadership 2026 — Present

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers — USF

Workshops Lead

Develop and coordinate technical workshops focused on practical engineering and software skills, helping students gain hands-on exposure to tools and concepts used beyond the classroom.

Ambassador

Adobe

Student Ambassador

Led creative and technical workshops for 100+ students, helping them explore Adobe tools through practical sessions, demonstrations, and campus programming.

Projects

Selected work across distributed systems, applied ML, and computer vision.

Payments Ledger

Fault-Tolerant Double-Entry Payments Ledger

Double-entry payments ledger with 0 balance errors across 50,000+ seeded fault-injection tests. Idempotency keys and a transactional outbox to Kafka prevent duplicate charges on network timeouts, and ID-ordered row locks sustain 3,200 transfers/sec at <35 ms p99 without deadlocks.

Go PostgreSQL Kafka Docker
Fraud Detection Engine

Adaptive Fraud Detection & Explainability Engine

Real-time fraud decisioning that cut expected fraud losses 36% vs. a rule-based baseline by tuning LightGBM thresholds to business costs. Scores 1,500+ Kafka events/sec at <18 ms p99 with Redis velocity features, attaches top-3 SHAP reason codes to every blocked transaction, and monitors drift with PSI.

Python FastAPI Kafka Redis LightGBM SHAP
Facial Recognition

Facial Recognition Pipeline

GPU-accelerated facial recognition system tuned for real-time inference — around 95% accuracy on a curated test set, a sub-200 ms latency target, and tested support for 100+ concurrent GPU sessions.
